Westwood, Denver is an amazing neighborhood with a large Latin / Indigenous population, rich cultural events and an amazing art / food scene. This has been our first year going here but it has been amazing as one thing my wife has always missed from Guatemala are the posadas around Christmas.
For those that do not know, a Posada is a religious tradition where a procession will go door to door, singing and asking for a place to stay commemorating Joseph and Mary’s journey. At different houses refreshments may be served and depending on the posada there may be a small party at the end.
While we showed up for the posadas we found traditional dancing, a holiday market, tamales and atole! Unfortunately we didn’t make it to the posadas as the kids were getting tired and cold but the convite dancing, with some members in Halloween masks was an experience alone!
